Why the elderly who are on a small pension still have to pay taxes and file taxes every year?
I think its a waste of time especially if the elderly person is very close to getting back what they pay in taxes. The elderly who are on a small pension should not have to worrying with paying and filing taxes. They have paid there dues to society. The government is so greedy.
There are some that I know who still pay taxes and file every year, who have small pensions. Why won’t the government just stop taking taxes out of their pensions?
I believe the Bible is speaking of tithes and offerings.
So vote for politicians who will actually cut taxes rather than giving all the money away in stimulus rebate checks and EIC.
If the elderly person makes more than $10,050 (they already get a higher standard deduction), then they owe taxes just like a young person does who is struggling on their first paycheck. Statistically, the young person doesn’t have any assets, no paid off home, no paid off car, no bank account. Statistically, the elderly person who saved does.
i agree! its awful! i used to be a tax preparer and there were so many old ladies who would come in to file taxes thinkin they were gonna get some back.. it always turned out that their tax prep fee was more than they were getting back! i always just done their taxes for free.
Generally the elderly who are on small pensions don’t pay or file taxes. This is the problem with getting the tax stimulus payment to older Americans. Many of them make too little money to have to file taxes, and the check is going out to people who file 2007 returns. So people who do not normally file taxes have to file this one year to get their check.
A single person over age 65 can have income up to $10,500 and not have to file. That total does NOT include social security.
For a married couple both over 65, the limit is $19,600.
Even in the Bible, the widow paid her penny.
Everyone who takes part in society, should contribute to society.
