Anyway ... the big problem is that the lid is glass. Try to screw anything INTO that and it will break. 

As a bloke, my solution would be to fit a new knob (Oo-er, matron!). These are available in most DIY stores for drawers  (there we go again) and cupboards. They come (I just can&#039;t keep this up! Age!) with fixing screws. This will need to pass through the hole in the lid. I would also strongly recommend fitting a heat-proof plastic or nylon (NOT metal) washer on the inside to spread the load and protect the glass. Also don&#039;t over-tighten it.</description>
